Undoubtedly, Jesus is one of the most famous figures in all of history. He has had billions of people follow him, made claims that were outrageous, had Christmas and Easter celebrated in his honour, and has literally split time into B.C. and A.D. But who is he?
When you begin to look at who Jesus is in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), you see a man that was so intriguing, so different, so controversial, that he was the talk of the town. People followed him everywhere he went, to see what he would say and do next. People talked, speculated, and argued over who this man was.
When you look at the things Jesus did, the way he treated people, and what he said; you have to come to the conclusion that either Jesus was absolutely crazy, or that he actually is God.
Colossians 1:15 says ‘Christ is the visible image of the invisible God’.
In John 10:30 Jesus says “I and the Father are one”. In other words, if you want to see what God looks like, look at Jesus. If you want to see God’s character, how he treats people, what he stands for, and what he thinks is important; look at Jesus. Jesus is God with skin on.
So why did God come to Earth in the person of Jesus?
John 3:16-17 says ‘For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him’.
Jesus came, because God loves.
He came to save us, give us eternal life, and to restore relationship between us and God through death on the cross, and through the resurrection.
