We each have a distinct context and a unique set of relationships. What would it look like if Jesus lived your life, on your street, in your family, working your job?
We have a strong focus at NVBC on encouraging one another to get involved deeply in the community beyond the walls of our church. Join a local sporting team. Have your neighbours round for meals. Protect space in your calendar. Life in a church community can be busy, full of good opportunities – but we are called to be a church that gathers and scatters, that finds strength, care and and joy worshipping together, and then goes forth bearing God’s image and proclaiming his good news in all the places he has called us.
This is a key theme in our teaching and planning, as well as a central focus for our Greenhouse conference, held every two years.
To develop a lifestyle of missional practices and habits, we follow Mike Frost’s BELLS acronym, outlined in his short book ‘Surprise the World’.
The idea of BELLS is to:
- BLESS three people per week
- EAT with three people per week
- LISTEN to the Holy Spirit
- LEARN the way of Jesus
- Journal about being a SENT one
