Navigating our chaotic world and the things that happen in our lives can be incredibly complex — as disciples of Jesus, we will still wrestle with seasons of suffering, doubt and confusion. The Old Testament wisdom tradition gives us both staggering permission to be honest about these, as well as role-modelling ways of walking through these seasons well. The wisdom books can appear contradictory at times — the positive maxims of proverbs contrasted with the pessimistic tone of Ecclesiastes. Together though, the wisdom books provide a conversation that can help us develop a holistic approach to the highs and lows of our discipleship journey. This series aims to give permission and validation to people in the midst of doubt, suffering and deconstruction — while providing a reminder to trust Christ and see him as the ultimate revelation of God’s wisdom. The series also offers an entry point to help people engage further with the wisdom texts, in particular Proverbs, Job and Ecclesiastes.
